The first I’d heard of Valentina Budino aka Budino was via mix posted on Test pressing last June. Ivan Berko wrote the ‘get to know’ article that accompanied it, he wrote…
“I am certain that Valentina is one of the best new DJs to come along in years. She absolutely stunned us in NYC when she played our party. Everyone from 22 years olds to 52 years olds were draw dropped. She is an actual DJ as one friend who grew up in the west coast psychedelic House scene in San Fran said. Her mixing ability and selection is bar none to her peers and then some. I’ve never met someone so young with such raw talent. The future is so bright for her”.
Va, was kind enough to anwser a few questions for us..
1. How did you end up living in Germany?
Hi Grant, first of it, thank you for inviting me.
I moved to Berlin in 2012 when I was 18, right after the end of my high school. I have never been in Berlin before but I felt it was the right city. I could see there was a huge music scene and I thought I could try to do what I loved there: mixing records.
I’m still here and I’m very happy about this naive decision I took back then.
2. What is that Record/track you can’t stop listening to at the moment?
I usually get obsessed with a track/album every few days and I listen it over and over again.
Now is the turn of “Lavabos iturriaga – Imágenes del ruido”, Spanish Electronic-Synth-Pop record. It’s so energetic. Pure pleasure.
3. If you could choose a time when you could have lived, when would that have been and why?
Absolutely during the 80’s – and 90’s afterwards.
During those years mostly of the music that I like and listen came out and it’d have been nice to experience that moment to go at the record shop and immediately have it. Also to experience the beginning of all the different music’s movements started back then and the evolving of the different music’s styles during the years.
I would like also to see how would be the music scene without internet. Meaning like searching and discovering music, gigs , connections, promotions etc. I can’t imagine that! Would love to experience that.
4. How would you describe yourself?
I’m just a music lover, that’s my real passion and all my life is based on it. I spend mostly of time searching/playing music and it became actually my life-style. I like to share and have fun with people on the dance floor and around. I can be very picky when comes music and mostly of the time not satisfied about myself but that’s part of my game and that’s what gives me the energy to look over and improve.
5. What is your favourite Album?
I have many, each one for the right mood, at the end is what is all about. One I can mention is an album from Michael Garrison, Eclipse. The whole album It’s just an endless trip into space. My absolutely favourite is “For you and me”
6. German or Italian food?
Well.. I’m Italian.. next question? Ahaha – sorry –
7. Your selections/mixes cross many Genres, where did all these influences come from?
I love to listen all different kind of music and I believe that’s the secret. I get my inspiration from everything and everybody around me, every day. My selection depends from my state of mind in that moment. It’s great to have options and music never ends so I need to discover as much as I can 🙂
